Mineral Strata Portrait — Cross-Section of Earth Time

92.97

A macro cross-section photograph of a polished agate slice revealing concentric mineral banding in terracotta, cream, smoky grey, and deep rust.

Description

Cut from a Brazilian agate nodule formed over approximately 50 million years, this polished cross-section was photographed on a lightbox to transmit the natural light through the semi-translucent mineral layers, revealing a depth and luminosity that reflected-light photography cannot achieve. The banding records the sequential mineral deposition events that formed the stone — each band a distinct geological episode separated by thousands of years. Shot at medium format with a macro lens, the image resolves individual crystal formations within each layer. The warm earth-tone palette — terracotta, sand, slate, and deep rust — makes this a natural fit for luxury residential, boutique hotel, and spa interior design schemes.
