Description
The Danube Delta is one of Europe’s largest and most biodiverse wetland systems, its interior accessible only by boat or from the air. This photograph, made from a light aircraft at 300m altitude, captures the extraordinary complexity of the interior delta channels — dozens of waterways from 3m to 300m wide separating reed beds, floating vegetation mats, and shallow lake basins into an infinitely complex natural mosaic. The silver-blue water of the channels and the varying greens of the vegetation create a colour palette of surprising subtlety, and the pattern of the waterways — simultaneously chaotic and structured — has a graphic quality that functions as both documentary nature photography and abstract aerial art.
