Geode interior photography at macro scale reveals the extraordinary regularity of crystal growth in natural conditions — the hexagonal prismatic symmetry of quartz crystals, the perfect termination geometry of each point, and the internal colour zoning produced by varying concentrations of iron impurities during growth. This image was made at 3:1 reproduction using a rail-focused setup with a 100mm macro lens and extension tubes, the geode positioned to align a cluster of particularly well-formed amethyst points with the focal plane. Ring flash diffused through a white Perspex dome provides shadowless, even illumination that renders the crystal transparency and internal colour zoning accurately. Each crystal point shows the characteristic colour gradient from pale at the base — where growth began in iron-poor conditions to deep purple at the termination — where iron concentration increased at the final growth stage.
