This photograph was made using a capacitive electrode trigger system detecting the beetle’s pre-launch leg extension movement, firing a studio flash at 1/16,000 second. The image captures the critical moment: the elytra at maximum opening angle, the hindwings at approximately 70% extension, and the rear legs still in contact with the leaf surface.
