Carbon Fibre Weave — Industrial Textile Close-Up

86.77 $

2×2 twill-weave carbon fibre fabric photographed at 4:1 macro magnification — the individual 7-micron carbon filaments grouped in tow bundles, the weave geometry creating a repeating diagonal optical pattern.

Description

Carbon fibre fabric at macro magnification reveals the engineering precision of modern composite materials — each tow bundle contains 3,000 or 12,000 individual 7-micron carbon filaments, and the twill weave pattern that characterises aerospace-grade cloth creates a regular diagonal pattern at the fabric scale that resolves into individual filament bundles at macro. This image was made at 4:1 reproduction using a dedicated macro lens and rail system, a single directional LED at 15 degrees from the cloth plane creating sidelight that reveals the three-dimensional relief of each tow bundle’s crossing geometry. The characteristic iridescent sheen of carbon fibre — its graphitic crystal structure producing different reflectance at different orientations — is clearly visible across the weave, the diagonal pattern creating alternating matte and specular reflectance zones. Shot on a black velvet backing that eliminates all light transmission through the cloth.
