Velvet Moss Carpet — Micro Forest Abstraction

15,407.30 ¥

Sheet moss photographed at 3:1 macro magnification — the individual sporophyte stalks rising above the gametophyte carpet like a dense forest canopy, the soft directional light revealing the geometry of each microscopic frond.

Description

Moss photography at macro scale reveals a world of extraordinary botanical complexity invisible at normal viewing distance — the individual gametophyte leaves, each two to three cells wide, the sporophyte stalks with their capsules at different stages of development, and the complex surface textures of each minute frond. This image was made at 3:1 reproduction using a 100mm macro lens with a 2× extension tube, the focal plane set to the level of the sporophyte capsule heads to create a forest-floor perspective. A single directional LED light positioned at 15 degrees from horizontal creates long shadows among the sporophyte stalks that emphasise the three-dimensional depth of the moss carpet. The resulting image resolves individual cells in the leaf structure at the in-focus plane while the background sporophytes dissolve into soft green bokeh.
