The three granite towers of Torres del Paine rise 2,500 metres above the Patagonian steppe in a vertical drama that has defined wilderness photography for decades. This photograph was made from the mirador viewpoint above Laguna Torre after a 2.5-hour pre-dawn ascent, timed to capture the precise three-minute window when the rising sun strikes only the upper tower faces, igniting them in deep rose-gold while the surrounding landscape remains in pre-dawn blue shadow. The tonal contrast between warm tower summits and cold blue foreground creates the characteristic dynamic that makes this location so photographically compelling. Shot on a 5-day residency in exceptional autumn clarity with the summit clouds absent — a combination that occurs perhaps 20 times per year.
