Tokyo Tower — Neon Steel Night

33,066.10 ¥

Tokyo Tower photographed from the Minato City streetscape at night — the red and white lattice steel structure fully illuminated against the deep Tokyo night sky, the surrounding Roppongi high-rises providing urban context.

Description

Tokyo Tower — completed in 1958 and modelled on the Eiffel Tower in lattice steel construction — stands 333 metres and serves simultaneously as a broadcasting tower, tourist attraction, and the most emotionally resonant architectural symbol of Japan’s post-war economic reconstruction. At night its full LED illumination system — white light for standard evenings, orange for special events, shifting colour schemes for seasonal celebrations — makes it the dominant visual element in a city skyline of extraordinary density. This photograph was made from a street-level position in the Azabu-Jūban district with a wide-angle lens that places the tower at the compositional apex while including the surrounding Roppongi high-rise skyline that provides the visual evidence of the contemporary city that the tower itself helped define. A 30-second exposure smooths the traffic movement on the boulevard below into light trails.
