Ranthambore’s well-documented tigers use the park’s natural waterholes during the summer months (April-June) when temperatures regularly exceed 42 degrees — the tigers spending the hottest midday hours submerged to the shoulder in the shallow stone-edged natural water catchments. This image captures the subject from a position on the waterhole bank, the tiger lying with its chin on the stone lip, body fully submerged, reflected in the still surface of the water beside it. The bilateral symmetry of the tiger and its reflection creates a compositional structure that emphasises the animal’s extraordinary facial markings — the white supraorbital spots, the dark facial stripes, and the amber eyes.
