Description
The 18 Supertrees of Gardens by the Bay range from 25 to 50 metres in height — vertical gardens of real and artificial plants on structural tree forms that serve as environmental engines for the adjacent conservatories. The nightly Garden Rhapsody light show programs all 18 structures in a coordinated illumination sequence timed to classical and popular music. This image was made from the ground level of the grove during the 7:45pm show, a wide-angle 16mm prime at f/8 on a 5-second exposure capturing the coordinated colour illumination at a peak moment of the sequence. The Marina Bay Financial Centre towers and the Marina Bay Sands hotel are visible between the Supertrees in the background. The paths between the trees are populated with visitors providing human scale. The image communicates Singapore’s commitment to integrating designed nature with urban infrastructure at an architectural scale.
