During the South American summer rainy season, the Salar de Uyuni is covered by a layer of rainwater typically between 5cm and 20cm deep — the extreme flatness of the salt plain (elevation variation of less than 1m across 10,000km²) ensuring perfect standing water conditions for a sky mirror of extraordinary scale.
