Neon Splash — Fluorescent Paint on Black UV

112.00 £

Fluorescent acrylic paint splash photographed under UV black light — the paint glowing at maximum intensity against a pure black background, the splash arms showing secondary droplet satellite formation.

Description

Fluorescent paint photography under UV illumination eliminates all background reflection, as the blackpainted surface absorbs the UV wavelengths used for excitation and the only visible light in the scene is the longer wavelength emission from the fluorescent pigments themselves. This image was made in a completely darkened studio with four UV fluorescent tubes providing excitation and no other light source. The splash was created by dropping a 30ml volume of UV-reactive orange acrylic paint from a height of one metre onto a black-painted steel plate, the impact captured at 1/20,000 second using flash-duration freeze on an electronic strobe filtered to transmit UV while blocking visible light from the flash unit. The resulting image shows the crown splash formation with its characteristic rim spikes and secondary satellite droplets, rendered in intense orange against pure black — a laboratory demonstration of fluid dynamics as
aesthetic image.
