Nairobi CBD — Night Panorama from KICC

152.80 £

Nairobi’s CBD photographed at night from the KICC Helipad — the Kenyan capital’s financial district tower cluster surrounding Upper Hill visible in the distance, the lights extending to the horizon of the city’s vast metropolitan extent.

Description

Nairobi — at 1,795 metres altitude, the world’s fourth-highest capital city — has developed one of Africa’s most significant commercial high-rise skylines since independence in 1963. The Kenyatta International Convention Centre — constructed 1973 with its distinctive cylindrical tower and amphitheatre — provides the most central elevated vantage point in Nairobi’s core CBD. The KICC’s circular observation gallery at the tower top provides a 360-degree panoramic view of the city. This photograph was made with formal access permission from the KICC management at 9pm, using a 50mm equivalent focal length to produce a natural perspective on the city panorama. The characteristic mix of Nairobi’s CBD — modernist towers of the 1970s, contemporary glass commercial buildings, and the occasional colonial-period government building — is visible in the near foreground, while the residential and commercial development of Westlands, Kilimani, and Upper Hill extends to the horizon.
