In the Dolomites of northeast Italy during the brief autumn window when the sun angle is low enough to project the full height of the Tre Cime di Lavaredo across the valley below, this aerial photograph captures the extraordinary visual phenomenon of mountain shadows rendered as two-dimensional graphite drawings on the valley floor.
