Lofoten Reine — Village Panoramic Winter

48,517.55 ¥

The village of Reine on Lofoten’s Moskenesøya island photographed from Mount Reinebringen in winter the red and white rorbu village reflected in the still fjord, surrounded by snow-capped mountain peaks.

Description

Reine is consistently ranked among the world’s most beautiful villages — a cluster of traditional red and white fishing cabins built on a series of small rocky islets connected by bridges in the inner fjord of Reinefjorden. The panoramic view from Mount Reinebringen — a 448-metre peak accessible via a steep but short trail — provides the definitive elevated perspective of the village and its mountain setting. In winter, the peaks surrounding the fjord carry full snow coverage, the sun barely rises above the mountain ridges at midday, and the low-angled Arctic light produces a warmth and softness impossible in summer. This photograph was made from the summit at the apex of midday light — a window of perhaps 45 minutes of adequate directional illumination. The fjord surface was completely still, providing a mirror reflection of the mountain slopes and village. The temperature was -18°C with a light wind requiring down insulation for the photographer and heated gloves for camera operation.
