Description
The Pantanal wetlands of Mato Grosso, Brazil, support the world’s densest and most accessible jaguar population — individual animals with established territories along the Cuiabá River that tolerate boats at close approach, enabling photography conditions impossible in other jaguar habitats. This photograph was made from a boat at 10m range, the camera position at water level creating a direct eye-level connection with the jaguar as it patrolled the riverbank. The gold and black rosette patterning of the coat is rendered at full resolution, and the green of the river vegetation creates a colour contrast with the warm coat that defines jaguar habitat photography.
