Flamingo Ballet — Lake Bogoria Aerial Flock

179.32 £

An aerial view of a massed flamingo flock on the alkaline surface of Lake Bogoria, Kenya — thousands of birds creating a living pink carpet on the rust-coloured water.

Description

Lake Bogoria in Kenya’s Rift Valley is an alkaline soda lake whose extreme chemistry supports massive blooms of the cyanobacteria Spirulina, which is the primary food source for the world’s largest concentration of lesser flamingos. During peak feeding periods, over a million birds may be present simultaneously, transforming the rust-coloured alkaline water surface into a living pink and white mosaic. This aerial photograph, made from a drone at 60m altitude with KENWA/KWS permission, captures approximately 50,000 birds in a single frame — the individual birds clearly resolved while the mass flock creates an abstract colour pattern of extraordinary richness. A landmark aerial wildlife photograph with strong conservation communication applications.
