Description
Carbon fibre composite materials exhibit remarkable optical properties when photographed under crosspolarised light — the resin matrix and carbon filaments interact with polarised light differently, creating zones of colour within what is normally a purely monochromatic weave pattern. This photograph was made using two large polarising filters (one over the light source, one over the lens) and a sheet of 3K 2×2 twill-weave carbon fibre composite, revealing the full range of interference colours from the resin matrix while maintaining the near-black opacity of the carbon fibres themselves. The result is a richly coloured abstract composition of precise geometric character. The image has strong commercial applications in the automotive, aerospace, and premium goods sectors
