Description
Spanning a 60cm aluminium ring with soap solution thickened with glycerin to extend film lifetime, this soap film was photographed within the first 90 seconds of formation — the period during which drainage produces the complex gradient of film thickness that generates the richest interference colour display. The thinnest zones show fourthorder Newton’s rings in magenta and green, while the thicker zones show lower-order colours in gold, orange, and cobalt. The entire composition is circular — bounded by the frame — and the colour bands form concentric and radiating patterns of extraordinary organic complexity. This is a favourite image for physics education contexts, luxury wellness environments, and collectors of scientific fine art photography.
