Bruges Central Square — Market Day Panorama

58.72 د.ك

The Markt (Market Square) of Bruges during the Saturday weekly market — the medieval guild houses, the Belfry, and the Provincial Court surrounding the market stalls and their coloured awnings, a horse-drawn carriage crossing the cobblestone foreground.

Description

The Markt of Bruges has been the commercial and civic centre of the medieval city for over 800 years — surrounded by the step-gabled guild houses, the Belfry’s 83-metre tower, and the neo-Gothic Provincial Court, the square functions simultaneously as a historical architectural ensemble, an active public market, and one of Belgium’s most visited tourist destinations. The Saturday market occupies the central square with produce, flower, and craft stalls, their coloured awnings providing contemporary life beneath the medieval facades. This image was made from the upper window of the Hotel de Roux — a heritage hotel facing the square — at 10am during the winter market: the horse-drawn tourist carriage is crossing the cobblestone foreground, the market stalls are active below the guild house facades, and the Belfry’s winter flag is clearly visible above. Shot on a 35mm prime at f/8 through the open window, the full square from facade to facade is captured in the horizontal frame.
