Aurora Abstract — Magnetic Curtain Over Lapland

244.53 $

An extraordinary aurora borealis photographed above a frozen Lapland lake — electric green and magenta curtains of ionised atmosphere reflected in mirror-perfect ice.

Description

Captured on a night of KP7 geomagnetic activity above Saariselkä, Finnish Lapland, this aurora photograph was made possible by a combination of exceptional atmospheric conditions (no snow cover on the frozen lake surface allowing a perfect black-ice reflection), strong solar wind activity producing both the dominant acid-green wavelength and the rare magenta hydrogen fringe, and a clear sky window that lasted precisely 18 minutes. The photograph is a single 20-second exposure at ISO 3200 on a full-frame sensor with zero noise reduction applied — the Milky Way is visible behind the aurora curtain. Available as a signed limited edition of 15 fine art prints on Fujiflex Crystal Supreme at sizes up to 200cm width.
