Ant Farm Cross-Section — Tunnel Architecture at 2:1

289.00 د.إ

A harvester ant formicarium photographed at 2:1 macro — the tunnel and chamber system cross-section visible through the glass wall, with workers in the characteristic poses of tunnel maintenance and brood care in the nursery chambers.

Description

Formicarium (ant farm) cross-section photography at macro scale reveals the architectural planning of ant colony tunnel systems — the specific geometry of the tunnels, the chamber sizes assigned to different colony functions, and the behaviour of workers in each chamber type. This image was made of a harvester ant formicarium with a glass side panel, the 2:1 macro reproduction capturing a section showing three chamber types: the entrance tunnel (large diameter, high traffic, workers moving both directions), a food storage chamber (showing stored seeds), and a nursery chamber with the white oval eggs and larvae being attended by nurse workers. The grain size of the sandy substrate is fully resolved, communicating the tunnel scale relative to the workers. Shot with a softbox on the opposite side of the glass from the camera, the backlighting silhouettes the opaque workers and eggs against the transparent substrate background.
