Amazon Riverboat — Nauta to Iquitos Night Journey

849.00 د.إ

The hammock deck of an Amazon riverboat during a night journey from Nauta to Iquitos, Peru — 80 passengers sleeping in coloured hammocks in four rows above the waterline, the Amazon river visible through the open sides in darkness.

Description

The riverboat journey between Nauta and Iquitos on the Amazon River is a standard two-day passenger trip in the Loreto region of Peru — local families travelling between jungle communities in the traditional style of the Amazon basin, sleeping in personal hammocks on the multi-deck open-sided vessels. The hammock deck at night presents one of travel photography’s most intimate crowd scenes: 60-80 travellers in layered hammock rows, the hammock density requiring careful personal choreography of sleep position, the Amazon darkness visible through the open hull sides. This image was made at 2am during the upstream journey on a 30-second exposure at ISO 3200 — the low available light from the boat’s interior lamps illuminates the coloured hammocks and their occupants as warm shapes against the darkness. The wake visible through the open side in the background provides the river context.
