creates one of the world’s most extraordinary urban traffic phenomena. At rush hour, the major intersections of Districts 1 and 3 transform into self-organising flows of motorcycles that appear chaotic but operate on a set of understood conventions of right-of-way and yielding that permit densities of movement impossible for cars. This aerial photograph was made from a rooftop position above Nguyễn Huệ Boulevard using a wide-angle tilt-shift lens to produce the characteristic flat-plane aerial quality that eliminates perspective distortion. The blue hour timing — 20 minutes after sunset — provides the maximum colour contrast between the motorbike headlights and the residual sky colour, while the traffic density is at its peak afternoon-commute maximum.
