Alpine Lake Circle — Öeschinen Lake Nadir

52.00 د.ك

A perfect nadir (straight-down) aerial view of a circular Alpine lake — turquoise water bounded by a perfect ring of subalpine forest and limestone scree.

Description

Öeschinen Lake in the Bernese Oberland of Switzerland is geologically unusual in its near-perfect circular planform — the result of a glacially scoured cirque basin in near-homogeneous limestone. This nadir photograph, made from a drone at 120m above the lake surface in late September, captures the lake at its most compositionally perfect — the still water surface reflecting a perfect circular sky mirror, bounded by a ring of gold and russet subalpine birch forest transitioning to grey limestone scree at the boundary of the original glacial excavation. The circular composition within a square frame creates a powerful geometric tension between the natural circle and the mathematical square.
