Wadi Rum Desert Highway — Night Drive Approach

849.00 د.إ

The approach road to Wadi Rum through the southern Jordanian desert at blue hour — the asphalt highway a straight line to the horizon between orange sand and the first sandstone formations, a single Jordanian army checkpoint visible.

Description

The approach to Wadi Rum from the Desert Highway through the southern Jordanian plateau captures the transition from flat desert to the spectacular sandstone and granite formations of the protected area — a visual journey that begins with complete flatness and ends with monumental geology. This image was made at the blue hour of the 90- minute drive from Aqaba, the road still 25 kilometres from the Wadi Rum village checkpoint, the first sandstone formations visible on the horizon. Shot through the clean windscreen of a stationary vehicle with a 24mm prime at f/4 and a 15-second exposure, the road surface reflects the evening sky as a long blue-silver band. The distant sandstone silhouettes — the first visual evidence of Wadi Rum’s geology — appear as purple forms on the horizon against the transitional orange-to-violet sky.
