Description
Photographed from a zodiac inflatable alongside the research vessel MS Polarstern in the sea ice margin north of Svalbard, this image captures a large male polar bear navigating the fragmented sea ice during the Arctic summer melt season. The combination of the bear’s immaculate white coat, the pale blue-white of the refrozen ice panels, and the deep cobalt of the open water leads between the ice creates a naturally balanced arctic colour palette of extraordinary purity. The bear is photographed at 30m distance using a 500mm lens, allowing sufficient frame-filling scale to communicate the animal’s size while maintaining the environmental context of the sea ice habitat. Available with optional scientific habitat annotation for educational use.
