Mexico City Metro — Line 2 Rush Hour

Mexico City’s Line 2 Metro at peak rush hour — the carriages packed to maximum density at Tasqueña station, the tile murals by Diego Rivera visible above the crowd, the characteristic CDMX Metro yellow and orange livery.

Description

Mexico City’s Metro system — the Sistema de Transporte Colectivo — carries approximately 4.5 million passengers daily on 12 lines, making it the second-busiest metro in North America. The system is notable architecturally for the integration of public art: Diego Rivera murals, archaeological site displays, and mosaic tile programs appear throughout the system. Line 2’s Tasqueña terminus — serving the southern districts — is among the busiest in the network during the morning and evening peaks. This photograph was made with formal media access permission during the morning peak at 8:15am, using a 35mm lens at a platform position that captures both the carriage density and the Rivera mosaic tiles visible above the crowd at the station’s upper register. The characteristic yellow and orange Interior Ministry livery of the Metro trains — designed in the 1960s and unchanged — provides the image’s warm colour signature.
