Photographed with a long exposure in complete darkness to allow the continuously shifting plasma arcs to accumulate into a single complex trace exposure, this image captures the natural physics of ionised gas as a fine art photograph. The colour of the discharge ranges from pure white at the central electrode through a corona of violet and cobalt as the ionised gas cools toward the glass surface. Unlike digitally generated electrical effects, the physics of real plasma discharge creates an organic branching structure that no algorithm reliably replicates — each fork and sub-fork follows genuine fluid dynamics of charged particles.
