Doha West Bay — Pearl-Qatar at Night

749.00 د.إ

The West Bay financial district of Doha photographed from the Corniche at night — the cluster of illuminated glass towers reflected in the Persian Gulf, the Pearl-Qatar island development visible in the middle distance.

Description

Doha’s West Bay financial district — a cluster of over 40 towers constructed since 1995 on the reclaimed land north of the historic city — represents Qatar’s architectural transformation from a modest pearling town to a global capital. The towers include works by Aedas, HOK, and RMJM, each individually designed to create a skyline of maximum visual variety. The Corniche — the 7-kilometre crescent-shaped waterfront promenade — provides the consistent viewing angle from which the complete West Bay cluster can be framed. This photograph was made from the central Corniche at 9pm — when the full tower illumination is active and the Persian Gulf is calm enough for clear reflection — using a 70mm focal length that provides the appropriate degree of perspective compression to stack the towers into a dense cluster. The Pearl-Qatar island — a $15 billion artificial island residential development visible to the north — is distinguishable as a lower-rise illuminated form at the waterline horizon.
