Brooklyn Bridge — Compression Effect from DUMBO

749.00 د.إ

The Brooklyn Bridge framed by the DUMBO archway in Brooklyn — the Manhattan span perfectly centred between two brick archways of the adjacent Manhattan Bridge approach, the bridge cables and towers compressed by telephoto into a single graphic element.

Description

The DUMBO (Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass) neighbourhood of Brooklyn is home to one of New York’s most photographed compositions: the view along Washington Street between the Manhattan Bridge approach arches, which perfectly frames the Brooklyn Bridge tower in the background. The telephoto compression required to bring the distant Brooklyn Bridge tower to apparent proximity with the foreground arch requires a 200mm or longer focal length from a position 100+ metres back on Washington Street. This image was made at 6am on a weekday to avoid the vehicle traffic that would otherwise interrupt the cobblestone street foreground. Shot on a 400mm telephoto at f/8 from a position near the corner of Front Street, the arch, bridge tower, and Empire State Building are stacked in the telescoping compression that defines this composition.
