Description
Drone wildlife photography in the Pantanal requires CAA permits, low-noise drone operation, and a protocol that maintains the drone at minimum disturbance altitude — typically 50 to 80 metres for large cats. At this altitude, the jaguar’s full body is visible in a single frame, its iconic rosette coat pattern resolvable at 60 metres with a highresolution sensor. This image captures a jaguar moving through the shallow seasonal flood water of the southern Pantanal, its reflection visible in the still water surface below. The flooded landscape reduces the jaguar’s ground contact to the clumps of grass and slight elevation changes in the floodplain, creating a visual isolation of the animal against a mirror-like water surface. Shot at 1/2000 second to freeze any movement at altitude, the image resolves the jaguar’s individual rosette markings and its posture — mid-stride, head slightly raised, apparently unconcerned by the drone’s presence.
