Ballet En Pointe — Royal Opera House Stage

799.00 د.إ

A ballerina en pointe on a professional stage under dramatic single-spotlight lighting — the perfect extension of arms and poised head position captured at the apex of the arabesque, the stage floor extending into darkness below.

Description

Made during a technical rehearsal at a major European opera house, this photograph exploits the exceptional control over lighting available during non-performance periods. The single hard spotlight above the dancer creates a cone of illumination that resolves the finest detail of the tutu fabric — each layer of silk organza individually distinguishable — while the surrounding stage disappears into absolute black. The dancer’s arabesque position was captured at the precise apex — the maximum elevation of the working leg above hip height — using a 1/800 second exposure to freeze any residual movement. The hard spotlight’s shadow falls directly below the supporting pointe shoe, emphasising the point of contact with the stage and the extraordinary concentration of force that full-body balancing on a single pointe shoe requires. Shot with formal permission during a three-hour technical rehearsal access.
