African Wild Dog Hunt — Mana Pools Sprint

1,099.00 د.إ

African wild dogs in the final sprint phase of a hunt in Mana Pools National Park — the pack’s leading dog within two body lengths of a running impala, the dust cloud of the pursuit obscuring the other pack members behind.

Description

African wild dog hunt photography in Mana Pools benefits from the park’s open woodland terrain that allows vehicle tracking of hunts in progress — the pack’s hunting movements are often visible for hundreds of metres in the mopane woodland. This image captures the final sprint phase of a successful hunt: the lead dog, identified by ear notch markings as the pack’s dominant male, is within two body lengths of a sub-adult impala that has been separated from its herd by the pack’s relay chasing strategy. The dog is at full gallop with all four feet off the ground, the impala’s white tail and hindquarters at the frame edge. Behind the lead dog, the dust cloud raised by the pursuing pack members obscures the full team composition. Shot at 1/3200 second at 400mm, the facial expression of the lead dog communicates the total commitment of the hunt’s final phase.
